Overall and Science GPA

Your overall GPA and science GPA will be compiled and averaged from all your college-level coursework taken at your home institution (GT) and courses taken at any other colleges or universities. PLEASE NOTE: First-year forgiveness policy at GT does not apply to health professional school applications, therefore ALL grades must be reported on the centralized online application services.

Medical schools use the science GPA along with the MCAT score to evaluate whether you can be academically successful in their programs.

What should I include in my science GPA?
 
The AMCAS application service for those applying to all allopathic (MD) schools (excluding Texas medical schools who use TMDSAS) describes the BCPM GPA as follows: Science (BCPM) GPA should include all grades from biology, chemistry, physics, and math courses (including statistics). In the event of a repeated course, both grades should be factored into the science GPA. Courses in the science GPA should be classified based on the content of the course, in accordance with the AMCAS Course Classification Guide.
The TMDSAS application service for those applying to specific medical, dental, and veterinary schools in Texas describes the science GPA below. (For a list of schools that utilize TMDSAS, click here.) Science (BCPM) GPA should include all grades from biology, chemistry, physics, and math courses (including statistics). In the event of a repeated course, both grades should be factored into the science GPA. Courses in the science GPA should be classified based on the content of the course, in accordance with the TMDSAS Instructions (see Course Area section).
The AACOMAS application service for those applying to osteopathic (DO) programs describes the science GPA below: Science GPA should include all grades from biology, chemistry, and physics courses. In the event of a repeated course, both grades should be factored into the science GPA. Courses in the science GPA should be classified primarily based on the course prefix/title listed on your transcript, in accordance with the AACOMAS Course Subject Guide.
The AADSAS application service for those applying to dental programs describes the science GPA below. (For a list of participating dental programs, click here.) BCP GPA should include all grades from biology, chemistry, and physics courses. In the event of a repeated course, both grades should be factored into the BCP GPA. Science GPA for dental applicants should include all grades from biology, chemistry, physics, and "other science" courses, as indicated in the ADEA Dental Course Subjects Guide.
